Alma Ata University – Brebes — Students from Alma Ata University deployed to Brebes Regency on August 2, 2023, as part of the KKN (Community Service Program). The deployment took place at the Brebes Regency’s Integrated Government Offfice (KPT), where Mr. Urip Sihabudin, SH., MH., the acting Regent of Brebes, and Mr. Nurul Hidayat, SH., MT., the Head of the Regional development Planning and Research Agency of Brebes Regency, warmly welcomed the KKN-T students. For the month of August 2023, a toal of 60 KKN-T students from Universitas Alma Ata participated in the program. They represented a variety of academic fields.
Dr. Muh Mustakim, M.Pd.I, Vice Rector 1 for Academic Development, Learning, and Community Engagement (MBKM), was there to represent Alma Ata University on this occasion. Dr. Muhammad Abdurrahman Munir, M.Sc., the director of community engagement, and KKN were also present. Dr. Muh Mustakim emphasized in his address that KKN is a crucial component of the university’s Tridharma, which every member of the academic community, including students, must go through. Students must complete Community Engagement through KKN in addition to Education and Research. The theme for this KKN-T program has been chosen by Alma Ata University as “Collaborative Optimization of Local Potentials to Improve Food Security and Family Health in Accelerating the Reduction of Stunting. It is hoped that students are able to collaborate with the local authority to reduce stunting.
The previous KKN, which involved 30 students in 3 places throughout the Brebes sub-district and was held in Brebes Regency at the beginning of 2023, is being continued by this thematic KKN activity. The objective is to expand upon current programs rather than beginning from scratch, in accordance with the advice of Prof. Dr. H. Hamam Hadi, MS., Sc.D., Sp,Gk, the rector of Alma Ata University. This guarantees a smooth transition of programs from the previous KKN period to the present one. It is hoped that the community would continue to support the stunting prevention initiatives even after the students finish their KKN period and head back to the University.
Alma Ata University was thanked for holding the KKNT in Brebes Regency by H.Urip Syihabudin, S.H (PJ bupati Brebes), he emphasized the theme’s applicability to the major difficulties the local government was facing, such as poverty and the high prevalence of stunting. H. Urip counselled the 60 KKN pariticipants to concentrate on initiatives that can successfully combat poverty and malnutrition.According to research, children that are stunted typically originate from low-income families in a 75% of cases. The rate of extreme poverty in Brebes is still very high, exceeding 35%.
Tengki Village, Padasugih Village, Wangandalem Village, Limbangan Wetan Sub-village, Limbangan Kulon Sub-village, and Pasarbatang Sub-village are the six locations in the Brebes sub-district where this thematic KKN period is being conducted. Along with improving family health and food security in Brebes Regency, the partnership with pertinent governmental and non-governmental organizations is anticipated to produce practical solutions that would finally lower the rate of stunting.
